I thought my sunburn was actually turning into a fairly nice tan...
but...
One of my work colleagues just asked if I ever tanned!! 
I must be very pale then....

Try living in a country where even when you are tanned, you are fairer than 98% of the population!! (That's me, and who knows what it would be like to live in Africa or India
